IPL Opening Ceremony

BCCI vice-President and IPL Chairman Lalit Modi invited the captains of all the 8 teams to come and sign below their respective teams logo on a large board which was followed by the speech . Lalit Modi declared the tournament open and announced that about 9 million rands from the revenue earned will be donated to the betterment of educational systems in South Africa. He thanked for the support and enthusiasm shown by the people of RSA and was grateful to the authorities for making arrangements in 4 weeks to shift IPL from India to South Africa and promised to Indian fans that next year IPL will be held in India .

Then the South African president addressed the crowd and thanked India for providing such a huge oppurtunity of organising IPL in SA. He also said that it would be good to see the team spirits among the players of different nations.

After this all the players in their team uniform marched their way into the ground which was lightened by the flood lights. Then began the era of music, lights , dance and fireworks. First was a local Zulu dance performed by the artists who danced on the beats of Indian and African drummers. Next was the performance from a live band and the lead singer presented  two beautiful songs which filled the environment with rhythm and music. Adding to the music was the performers dressed as huge butterflies and flowers with colorful wings ,dancing  and then there was little bit of aerobics shown by 4 performers which was then followed by two roller skater standing on a round dial and the male performer swinged the female performer around his body . There was marvelous coordination between two  and showed  great skills on that small dial with skaters tied to their feet. Really it was a amazing stuff and one can watch such kind of performances rarely. This act mesmerized me and I really like the energy and chemistry between the two performers.

Then there was complete darkness in the stadium which was followed by laser show synchronised with music and lasers were scattered all over the stadium into the sky.  Now was the turn to watch  some fire dance, there was a live guitarist in middle surrounded by many dancers performing dance with fire torches in their hands . Two entertainer were holding  a fire rope between them and a girl was dancing and jumping over the rope. It really felt like fire is dancing in various forms . At last there was  dazzling fireworks that lit up the sky . I saw hundreds of camera flashes all over the crowd trying to capture the beautiful firework in the sky. The whole stadium was livened up with melodious music and the environment was truly rocking in the stadium. This was the end of the ceremony of IPL season 2 and the players started to move out from the stadium .

The celebration ended but felt like it promised to give  complete entertainment in this new version of cricket with world’s best cricket players competing with each others in coming 57 matches.
